Being dissatisfied with the aesthetic of the industrial tableware, the members from BR2 CERAMIC & PORCELAIN STUDIO decided to give clay a whole new purpose in order to make dining a special and unique ritual!
Please give a brief description. How did you get into this profession?
BR2 CERAMIC & PORCELAIN STUDIO is a small, yet productive manufacturer of unique tableware for restaurants and private customers. Getting a Master’s Degree from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade led us to pursue our happiness by shaping, forming and giving the clay a whole new purpose! Also, we were always dissatisfied with the aesthetic of the industrial tableware, since it was lifeless and basic, so we gave ourselves a strange goal: to make your simplest rituals, like dining is, special and unique!
What do you produce in your ceramic studio?
We produce all kinds of tableware, in any shape or size! From cups or mugs, to a big restaurant types of plates. And since our company politics is to create a unique piece for every soul that wants our products, the options are infinite. It's just a huge flow of creativity in our studio.
Why do you buy ceramic bodies (Keramische Massen) from Goerg & Schneider? Which clay do you use?
Well, after experimenting with a bunch of other clay bodies, we finally found an amazing Keramische Massen 254 White Clay. The goal was to find a clay that remove the "chore" label from wheel throwing. After trying 254 for the first time, the feeling it produced under our hands was the trigger to never look for another product again. After that we tried many of your products, and each and every one of the clay bodies gave us excellent results without any effort, and we use them from time to time, depending on the design, but 254 is the main clay in our arsenal!
Our ceramics are then fired at 1250 degrees Celsius. We need our tableware to be strong and resistant.
What are the most important characteristics which make your ceramics so popular?
We believe it's the fact that each and every piece is unique in its own way. Basically, our products are what we are at the moment, and we give them our full attention and love. Doing that, your plate will not be just a mixture of high fired minerals, but also a special mixture of emotion woven into a single piece. That special alchemy of hard work and love that radiates from our products is what makes any product unique and loved.
Where do you get your ideas from? How is a new design created?
It’s always somewhat a spontaneous thing. As a visual artist, you see the world a bit different than it really is, noticing the things that human eye doesn’t normally pay attention on. Those small details, the colours, the textures combined with your unique taste and elan is what creates an idea that creates the idea which will become a product at some point.
